Trees that may grow in this area are native trees range from tall, evergreen conifers to weeping deciduous trees. Deciduous natives include the Shumard oak, a 60-foot-tall shade tree with a similar spread. This oak has large, dissected leaves that turn red and yellow in fall. Shumard oaks provide habitat for butterflies. The black gum (Nyssa sylvatica) grows slowly to 60 feet tall and has glossy, dark leaves that turn red, orange and yellow in fall. This native tree attracts bees and birds with its flowers and blue-black fall fruits. These are the common flowers that may grow in this area like Bird’s Foot Violet, Black-eyed Susan, and butterfly weed.
